Comments: Easy to grow, drought tolerant, long flowering period
Latin name: Dimorphotheca pluvialis
Pluvialis relates to rain referring to the growth of the plants in the wet season.
Uses: Borders, containers, window boxes and gravel drifts
Flower size: 30 - 45mm diameter
Plant height: Up to 30cm
When to sow: Outdoors: After risk of frost has passed - end of June
Indoors: 4 - 5 weeks before last frost usually expected in your area
Weeks to flowering: From outdoor sowing: 9 - 10
Hardiness: Not frost hardy. Treat as a half hardy annual.
Garden position: Sunny, well-drained soil.
Best Sown Directly Outdoors:
When: After risk of frost has passed to the end of June
How: Thinly, in shallow imaginative lines and cover lightly.
Or: Directly into an ornamental container filled with soil-less compost and 25% grit.
Thin Out: 10 - 15cm between plants
Days to germination: 7 - 14
Sow Indoors For Early Flowers :
When: 4 - 5 weeks before last frost usually expected in your area
Temperature: 10 - 18°C e.g. cool windowsill or conservatory
Use: Soil-less seed compost with 25% either sharp sand or perlite. Cover lightly. If not sown in a propagator, cover with a plastic bag (remove on germination)
Days to germination: 7 - 14

Prick out seedlings and grow on. Harden off and plant out after last frost.
